Shanghai Securities News, China Securities Network (Reporter Fan Zimeng) Standard Chartered PLC recently released the "2021 Sustainable Investment Survey" report shows that global investors' awareness and interest in sustainable investment has reached an all-time high. Among them, mainland Chinese investors are ahead of other markets in investment interest, allocation planning, confidence and other aspects, showing the great potential and development prospects of the mainland sustainable investment market.

The survey collected and collated the views of 2000 high net worth individuals from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States on sustainable investment, covering seven markets, including mainland China.

From a global point of view, sustainable investment has become the focus of investors. 82% of respondents already know something about sustainable investment; 81% of respondents are interested in sustainable investment. 40% of global respondents do not own sustainable investment products but have relevant investment plans, and 20% of respondents plan to allocate more than 20% of their assets to sustainable investment products over the next three years.

In mainland China, respondents were not only more interested in sustainable investment than in other markets (92 per cent), but also ranked first in the world in the proportion of high net worth persons with sustainable related funds (61 per cent).

The report also showed that mainland respondents were confident in sustainable investment: only 31 per cent of investors viewed sustainable assets with scepticism, well below the global average of 51 per cent. Confidence in sustainable investment is also reflected in expected returns, with 77% of mainland respondents believing that the long-term performance of sustainable investment products is better than that of traditional categories of products. In terms of investment intention, 61% of mainland respondents are prepared to invest more of their existing assets in sustainable investment products, while 71% of respondents plan to allocate more than 15% of their assets to sustainable investment products in the next three years.

Liang Dawei, General Manager of Wealth Management of Standard Chartered Bank (China) Co., Ltd., said: "the process for investors to choose investment products can be divided into four stages-understanding the products, generating interest, having intentions and deciding to invest. The macro background such as the promotion of the United Nations sustainable development goals, the establishment of the "3060 double carbon goal" and the proposal of "three distributions and common prosperity" have greatly enhanced the understanding of sustainable investment among investors in mainland China. From the report, we are also pleased to see that the performance of mainland respondents in the above four stages is in the forefront. At the same time, we also find that global investors have a consistent demand for sustainable investment standards and data, as well as professional investment advice. "

Mr Leung said ESG investment was one of the themes of wealth management in Standard Chartered China. Standard Chartered China will do a good job in investor education and make good use of its advantages and expertise to assist more investors. At the same time, we should give full play to the advantages of the global network and introduce more mature products and standards to promote the development of the mainland's sustainable investment market.
