TeslaCEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that the delivery of the new electric sports car Roadster was delayed to 2023 at the earliest as supply chain shortages continued to put pressure on the company.

Musk wrote on social media: "2021 is a year of severe shortage in the supply chain, so it is useless for us to have 17 new products because none of them will be delivered. Assuming there is no major drama in 2022, the new Roadster should be shipped in 2023. "

Tesla, Inc. is not the only carmaker dealing with supply chain pressures. Other carmakers, including Toyota and Ford, have slashed production to cope with chip shortages.

The new Roadster was originally scheduled to go on sale in 2020. It is worth mentioning that Musk said in an interview in January that the model would not go on sale until 2022. Tesla, Inc. first released plans for a new Roadster at the end of 2017.

According to Musk's previous introduction, the new Roadster will be the fastest car, with 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 1.9 seconds and 0 to 100 mph acceleration in 4.2 seconds. The new Roadster has a top speed of 250mph, a range of 620mph and a 200kWh battery pack.
