Virgin track is planning a backdoor listing through SPAC, valued at about $3 billion.

Virgin orbit, a satellite launch company spun off by Virgin Galaxy (SPCE.US), is in talks with NextGen Acquisition II (NGCAU.US), a SPAC company led by a former Goldman Sachs partner and former Platinum Elmer CEO.

Some media sources say there will be further news in the coming weeks.

Virgin orbit has always prided itself on their aerial launch technology. Unlike traditional ground-launched rockets, the technology uses a modified Boeing 747 to carry the LauncherOne rocket to an altitude of about 45000 feet and then release the rocket to complete the launch. Virgin orbit says this approach is "much more flexible" than ground launches.

The LauncherOne rocket is designed to carry small satellites weighing about 500kg, and Virgin Galactic completed its first successful launch in January, with a second launch planned this month.

Virgin track's CEO said in October that it was raising about $150 million in new capital to expand its business, while NextGen Acquisition II raised a total of $383 million through its IPO and over-allotment.

In addition, Musk's SpaceX and Bezos's Blue Origin are also racing into space in their own ways. According to reports on Wall Street, Bezos will personally take a short space trip in the New Shepard capsule launched by Blue Origin next month and successfully sell a sky-high $28 million "ticket."

SpaceX is also experimenting with manned space technology, and its dragon spacecraft has so far sent 10 astronauts to the International Space Station, and NASA pays SpaceX $55 million per seat for such missions. At the same time, the company plans to launch a number of commercial aviation programs in the coming year, including four private aviation programs for Axiom Space and Inspiration4's business aviation program.
