Beijing time, June 16, according to media reportsAmazonChief executive Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos) is willing to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on the company's competitive strategy.
Bezos will testify at a hearing later this summer once Amazon settles matters related to the committee's requirements for internal documents, the report said.
Last month, Amazon rejected a request for Mr. Bezos to appear before a judicial committee, saying it would select suitable executives to testify about third-party vendor data. The judicial committee asked Bezos to testify after Amazon was questioned about using the information of third-party sellers to develop its own-brand products.
Senior Democrats on the committee said they doubted whether Amazon would lie to Congress about its own-brand strategy. Recently, reports of Amazon's use of third-party vendor data seem to contradict previous testimony by Amazon executives against third-party sellers.
A recent survey found that Amazon employees use unaggregated or easily identifiable data from third-party sellers to develop their own-brand products.
The report appears to be at odds with the testimony of Nate Sutton, Amazon's deputy general adviser, at a hearing in July. At that hearing, he denied that third-party seller data had been used to manipulate search algorithms to support Amazon's own products, or to compete directly with merchants in any other way.
Over the past year, Amazon has faced scrutiny as lawmakers and regulators assess the privacy and monopoly of technology companies.
