Insiders At Brink's Sold US$1.3m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Insiders At Brink's Sold US$1.3m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
In the last year, many The Brink's Company (NYSE:BCO) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Brink's Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Dominik Bossart, for US$850k worth of shares, at about US$84.96 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$94.64, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. We note that the biggest single sale was only 30% of Dominik Bossart's holding.

Brink's Insiders Are Selling The Stock
Brink's
The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Brink's shares. In total, Executive VP and President of Europe James Parks dumped US$386k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.
Does Brink's Boast High Insider Ownership?
Brink's
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Brink's insiders own 2.2% of the company, worth about US$92m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Brink's Insiders?
An insider hasn't bought Brink's stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We'd practice some caution before buying! So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. Case in point: We've spotted 3 warning signs for Brink's you should be aware of, and 1 of them makes us a bit uncomfortable.
