Anyone interested in Huntsman Corporation (NYSE:HUN) should probably be aware that the Independent Director, Mary Beckerle, recently divested US$433k worth of shares in the company, at an average price of US$21.42 each. In particular, we note that the sale equated to a 100% reduction in their position size, which doesn't exactly instill confidence.
Huntsman Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Notably, that recent sale by Mary Beckerle is the biggest insider sale of Huntsman shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$19.99. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Insider Ownership Of Huntsman
Huntsman
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Huntsman insiders own 6.0% of the company, worth about US$209m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Huntsman Insiders?
An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Zooming out, the longer term picture doesn't give us much comfort. While insiders do own a lot of shares in the company (which is good), our analysis of their transactions doesn't make us feel confident about the company. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. For example, Huntsman has 3 warning signs (and 2 which are a bit unpleasant) we think you should know about.
