Amcor Plc Just Missed Earnings - But Analysts Have Updated Their Models

Amcor Plc
Simply Wall St ·  11/06 02:56

As you might know, Amcor plc (NYSE:AMCR) last week released its latest quarterly, and things did not turn out so great for shareholders. Amcor missed analyst forecasts, with revenues of US$3.4b and statutory earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.13, falling short by 2.8% and 5.7% respectively. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. With this in mind, we've gathered the latest statutory forecasts to see what the analysts are expecting for next year.

Taking into account the latest results, the current consensus from Amcor's 17 analysts is for revenues of US$13.9b in 2025. This would reflect a reasonable 2.7% increase on its revenue over the past 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to jump 21% to US$0.64. Before this earnings report, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$14.2b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.65 in 2025. So it's pretty clear that, although the analysts have updated their estimates, there's been no major change in expectations for the business following the latest results.

There were no changes to revenue or earnings estimates or the price target of US$10.89, suggesting that the company has met expectations in its recent result. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. The most optimistic Amcor analyst has a price target of US$11.80 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$10.00. With such a narrow range of valuations, the analysts apparently share similar views on what they think the business is worth.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. It's pretty clear that there is an expectation that Amcor's revenue growth will slow down substantially, with revenues to the end of 2025 expected to display 3.6% growth on an annualised basis. This is compared to a historical growth rate of 4.8% over the past five years. Compare this against other companies (with analyst forecasts) in the industry, which are in aggregate expected to see revenue growth of 5.4% annually. Factoring in the forecast slowdown in growth, it seems obvious that Amcor is also expected to grow slower than other industry participants.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that there's been no major change in sentiment, with the analysts reconfirming that the business is performing in line with their previous earnings per share estimates. On the plus side, there were no major changes to revenue estimates; although forecasts imply they will perform worse than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.
