Over the past year, many PVH Corp. (NYSE:PVH) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

PVH Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Julie Fuller, for US$1.6m worth of shares, at about US$109 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$98.46). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. PVH insiders own about US$32m worth of shares. That equates to 0.6% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About PVH Insiders?

The fact that there have been no PVH insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. Still, the insider transactions at PVH in the last 12 months are not very heartening. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort. Of course, the future is what matters most.
