Sina US Stock News J.P. Morgan Chase (J.P. Morgan Chase's CEO Jamie Dimon (Jamie Dimon) said on Wednesday that the negative interest rate policy is one of his current concerns.

In an interview with the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Dimon said, “My only concerns are negative interest rates, quantitative easing, and shifts in stock prices, bond prices, yields, etc.”

Dimon said, “This (negative interest rate) is one of the greatest experiments of all time, but we still don't know what the end result will be.”

Japan and the European Central Bank have adopted negative interest rates to stimulate a stagnant economy. Economists are divided on the effectiveness of rekindling economic growth, and some worry that negative interest rates will inhibit rather than accelerate growth.

Dimon said, “I think it's hard for central banks to make up for bad policies elsewhere forever. This has put them in a trap. Today, we are more or less in this trap, with interest rates so low around the world.”

Dimon added, “I would never buy a negative interest rate bond unless I'm forced to. Every time you see something like this in history, it doesn't necessarily end well.”

However, US President Trump touted negative interest rates in his Davos speech on Tuesday, saying that the US is at a competitive disadvantage due to higher interest rates.

“We're forced to compete with countries that have adopted negative interest rate policies. This (negative interest rate) is a very new thing,” Trump said. “It means they get paid to borrow money. It's something I'll soon get used to, and I love it.”

Dimon added that he is also concerned about the impact of quantitative easing and the risks posed by cyber attacks or geopolitical events.

Dimon said, “This abnormal situation has been going on for a long time. We don't fully understand the cause or effect, and we probably won't know for another ten years.”
