Insiders At Digimarc Sold US$620k In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Quite a few Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ:DMRC) insiders sold their shares over the past year, which may be a cause for concern. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Digimarc
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Milena Alberti-Perez, for US$151k worth of shares, at about US$30.84 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$28.73. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Does Digimarc Boast High Insider Ownership?
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Digimarc insiders own 30% of the company, worth about US$180m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Digimarc shares in the last quarter.
