Investors may wish to note that the Independent Director of Solid Power, Inc., Steven Goldberg, recently netted US$86k from selling stock, receiving an average price of US$1.45. That might not be a huge sum but it was 100% of their personal holding, so we find it a little discouraging.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Solid Power

Solid Power

Notably, that recent sale by Steven Goldberg is the biggest insider sale of Solid Power shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$1.43. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that Solid Power insiders own 7.6% of the company, worth about US$19m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Solid Power Tell Us?

Solid Power

Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We'd practice some caution before buying! So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. While conducting our analysis, we found that Solid Power has 3 warning signs and it would be unwise to ignore them.
