Strong Week for Conduent (NASDAQ:CNDT) Shareholders Doesn't Alleviate Pain of Five-year Loss

Conduent(納斯達克代碼:CNDT)股東本週收益豐厚,但五年的虧損令人痛苦
Simply Wall St ·  06/28 22:34

Statistically speaking, long term investing is a profitable endeavour. But no-one is immune from buying too high. Zooming in on an example, the Conduent Incorporated (NASDAQ:CNDT) share price dropped 65% in the last half decade. We certainly feel for shareholders who bought near the top. But it's up 8.7% in the last week.

While the stock has risen 8.7% in the past week but long term shareholders are still in the red, let's see what the fundamentals can tell us.

Given that Conduent didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

In the last five years Conduent saw its revenue shrink by 5.4% per year. While far from catastrophic that is not good. With neither profit nor revenue growth, the loss of 11% per year doesn't really surprise us. We don't think anyone is rushing to buy this stock. Ultimately, it may be worth watching - should revenue pick up, the share price might follow.

A Different Perspective

Investors in Conduent had a tough year, with a total loss of 2.9%, against a market gain of about 25%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. However, the loss over the last year isn't as bad as the 11% per annum loss investors have suffered over the last half decade. We would want clear information suggesting the company will grow, before taking the view that the share price will stabilize. You might want to assess this data-rich visualization of its earnings, revenue and cash flow.
