Possible Bearish Signals With Shopify Insiders Disposing Stock
Over the past year, many Shopify Inc. (NYSE:SHOP) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

They previously made a sale of -US$16m worth of shares at a price of US$70.27 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$64.69. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

The last three months saw some Shopify insider selling. Insiders only netted US$48k selling shares, in that period. It's not great to see insider selling, nor the lack of recent buyers. But the amount sold isn't enough for us to put any weight on it.

Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
