Many Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Lam Research
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Senior Vice President of Global Customer Operations, Neil Fernandes, for US$1.8m worth of shares, at about US$828 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$904). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 18% of Neil Fernandes's holding.

Insiders At Lam Research Have Sold Stock Recently
The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Lam Research shares. In total, Vice President of General Legal - Support Groups George Schisler sold US$363k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. This may suggest that some insiders think that the shares are not cheap.
Insider Ownership
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Lam Research insiders own 0.3% of the company, currently worth about US$395m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
