Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that autonomous driving technology will drastically reduce traffic accidents and could save millions of lives.

Musk was responding to a post by Tesla investor and German engineer Alex Avoigt, who claimed that the insurance industry is paying close attention to Tesla's FSD technology.

Avoigt wrote, “I just received a call from a major German insurance company that wanted to know about FSD and wanted to use my expertise to help prepare their team for the future autonomous vehicle business.”

Avoigt said, “This is a positive sign that some people are waking up and trying to prepare for a future where autonomous cars will change the core of the automotive industry. I'm happy to get this call, but as confidential company information, I'm certainly not going to reveal anything. The insurance industry is watching FSD closely.”

“This will greatly reduce accidents and save millions of lives,” Musk responded.
