Malaysian Shares Extend Gains on Positive Cues; Proton's Vehicle Sales Rise 17% in April

Malaysian shares ended higher for the fourth straight session on Tuesday. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, added 8.29 points to end 0.52% higher at 1,605.68 at the close.

The index opened comparatively lower but gained momentum throughout the trading session. The day ranged between 1,600.66 and 1,610.32.

In corporate news, Malaysia's national carmaker Proton Holdings (KLSE:PROTON) saw a 17.1% jump in its vehicle sales for April to 11,025 units, versus 9,415 units in the year-ago period. The combined sales for the first four months of 2024 rose to 50,175 units, from 49,702 units sold in the year-ago period.

Elsewhere, Bursa Malaysia (KLSE:BURSA) launched Malaysia's first profiling platform, dubbed Bursa Remisier Acquisition Hub (Bursa Reach), which features and facilitates better connections between representatives of dealers and investors.

In other corporate news, shares of the gloves manufacturing and other services provider surged Hong Seng Consolidated (KLSE:HONGSENG) 50% today, and those of the management services provider Amlex Holdings (KLSE:AMLEX) rallied 28% on Tuesday's close.
