Singapore, 15 Jan 2024 - DBS/POSB customers gearing up for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) festivities can enjoy more convenience with the bank's array of digital and traditional gifting solutions.

  • As more customers embrace digital gifting options, DBS/POSB continues to offer its popular DBS QR Ang Bao and eGift options to meet this growing demand. From now until 25 January, customers can order DBS QR Ang Baos via the bank's digibot service and have them delivered to their doorstep before CNY.
  • Customers who use the DBS QR Ang Bao or eGift and keep cash withdrawals under SGD 600 from 15 January to 29 February can stand a chance to win up to SGD 88,888 in cash in the bank's "Give Huat, Win Huat" giveaway.
  • Those who prefer traditional cash gifting can reserve new and Fit-for-Gifting[1] notes (Fit notes) via the bank's online reservation portal starting 17 January and collect the notes from 24 January onwards. Customers can also obtain these notes at any one of the 72 pop-up ATMs in DBS/POSB self-service branches and community centres[2] from 24 January onwards. These pop-up ATMs are in addition to the current network of over 1,200 DBS/POSB ATMs where customers can withdraw cash round-the-clock.

Jeremy Soo, Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Group (Singapore), DBS Bank, said, "As we usher in the Year of the Dragon, we are excited to bring back our digital gifting solutions that blend innovation with tradition. Since the launch of the DBS QR Ang Bao in 2019, we have seen a steady increase in its adoption. Today, it is the go-to option that many customers choose for their CNY gifting. This year's DBS QR Ang Bao features a refreshed slot-in design that mirrors the opening of a traditional Ang Bao, ensuring that the joy of gifting remains intact for both gifters and receivers. We will continue to prioritise convenience and joy for our customers, ensuring that their gifting experiences are both seamless and delightful while preserving cherished age-old traditions."
Elevate festive gifting with DBS QR Ang Bao
Digital gifting continues to increase in popularity, with more customers embracing and using DBS QR Ang Bao and/or eGift over the past few years.
In 2023, the bank saw a 20% increase in customers using QR Ang Bao and/or eGift for the first time. Over SGD 15 million was gifted via DBS QR Gift and eGift during CNY – an increase of more than 30% compared to 2022. Of this, over SGD 11 million was gifted via DBS QR Ang Bao, which is nearly seven times that gifted in 2019 when the option was first launched.

DBS QR Ang Bao

This year's QR Ang Bao features a refreshed slot-in design, which draws inspiration from traditional Ang Bao envelopes, marrying innovation with the age-old tradition of Ang Bao gifting. The QR Ang Bao affords greater convenience to both gifters and recipients.
Gifters can:

  • Skip the queues for new notes and tap on the complimentary DBS QR Ang Bao click and deliver service. From now until 25 January, customers can place an order for DBS QR Ang Baos on the bank's website and have them delivered to their doorstep before CNY. Alternatively, they can conveniently obtain DBS QR Ang Baos from DBS/POSB branches located across the island.
  • Load up to 10 QR Ang Baos at one go and keep track of how much is gifted digitally via the DBS PayLah! app QR Gift dashboard. Anyone can redeem a QR Ang Bao, as long as they have DBS PayLah! or a PayNow-linked bank account.

Recipients can:

  • Easily scan the QR code and instantly have their monetary gift deposited into their PayLah! wallet or bank account, saving the hassle of having to bank in their Ang Bao money in person.

Customers are also increasingly comfortable with exchanging eGifts, with the amount gifted through eGift rising 40% to more than SGD 4 million in 2023. DBS eGift was first launched in 2015 as Singapore's first digital Ang Bao at that time and has since been enhanced to allow for even more personalised gifting. With eGift being available at any time and from anywhere, it allows customers to spread joy and blessings to their loved ones even if they may not be physically together to celebrate CNY.
Win up to SGD 88,888 in the "Gift Huat, Win Huat" giveaway

In addition to the grand 'Ultimate Huat' prize of SGD 88,888, the bank will also be giving out cash prizes of SGD 58,888, SGD 28,888, SGD 288 and SGD 88.
