Heathrow Airport in London will be closed all day on Friday, as a fire nearby has led to widespread power outages, throwing plans into chaos for one of the busiest airports in the world and hundreds of thousands of travelers. A substation in Hayes, north of Heathrow Airport, caught fire overnight, and a large number of firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze. Heathrow Airport stated in a release that disruptions will continue over the coming days, and passengers should not come to the airport under any circumstances. Flights from airlines, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, owned by IAG SA, operate at Heathrow, which handles over 1,400 flights daily, with passenger numbers reaching 0.2 million. According to tracking service Flightradar24, approximately 120 planes already en route have been diverted or returned to their origin, including flights from Qantas, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines.
