According to the official account of the Intellectual Property Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court, the Intellectual Property Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court recently concluded an appeal case concerning a new energy vehicle chassis technology secret infringement dispute caused by a large number of employees 'job-hopping' between two well-known domestic auto companies. The plaintiff claimed a high compensation amount of 2.1 billion yuan, the second instance of the Supreme People's Court applied a 2-fold punitive compensation judgment, requiring the infringer to compensate the economic losses and rights protection expenses, totaling more than 640 million yuan, creating a new record of compensation in China's intellectual property infringement lawsuit. The case refers to the two well-known domestic car companies, Geely Holding Group and Weimar Automobile. In 2018, Geely filed a lawsuit against Weimar to claim that they had infringed their technical secrets, asking for a court order to stop the infringement and compensate for economic losses and rights protection expenses, totaling 2.1 billion yuan. After the first-instance judgment, both parties appealed to the Supreme People's Court. The Supreme People's Court held that this case is an infringement of technical secrets caused by the organized and planned large-scale mining of new energy vehicle technology personnel and technology resources by illegal means.
