The Civil Aviation Administration of China held a press conference on May 17. Xu Qing, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Administration's Transportation Department, said at the press conference that this year, the Civil Aviation Administration will continue to focus on increasing international passenger flights, coordinate measures with relevant departments, make every effort to promote the further resumption of international passenger flights, actively support Chinese and foreign airlines to increase capacity investment in China's international routes, improve the international route network, and facilitate the exchange of Chinese and foreign personnel. Xu Qing explained that in the past week (May 6 to May 12, 2024), Chinese and foreign airlines have carried out a total of 5,493 scheduled international passenger flights (each round-trip flight is counted as 1 flight, same below), returning to about 73.1% before the epidemic, with passenger flights in 70 countries, including 5 additional navigation countries, Kuwait, Serbia, Tanzania, Luxembourg, and Papua New Guinea. The number of passenger flights between China and the “Belt and Road” countries has recovered to 4,053 per week, about 76.6% before the epidemic, which is 3.5 percentage points higher than the average recovery level of the industry. The number of flights accounts for 73.8%, an increase of 4.4 percentage points over before the epidemic.
