In order to strengthen the protection of young people from e-cigarettes, the Macao Special Administrative Region Law No. 13/2022 “Amending Law No. 5/2011 'Smoking Prevention and Control System'” came into effect on December 5. The law clearly states that the Macao SAR prohibits the manufacture, distribution, sale, import and export of e-cigarettes and tobacco products for oral or snuff use, including the prohibition of carrying such products out of the country and into the MSAR. According to reports, offenders will be fined 4,000 patacas. For example, private entities or the tobacco industry will be punished with 20,000 to 200,000 patacas; in addition to strengthening legislation and enforcement, the Macao SAR government will also continue to strengthen tobacco control publicity and education to enhance the ability of young people to refuse to use emerging products such as tobacco and e-cigarettes.
