At a press conference on "speeding up the Construction of an Energy Power to ensure Energy Security" held by the Information Office of the State Council, Zhang Jianhua, director of the State Energy Administration, said that the structure of energy consumption has been significantly optimized. The share of coal consumption fell from 65.8% in 2014 to 56% in 2021, an average annual decline of 1.4 percentage points, the fastest decline in history. The proportion of clean energy such as natural gas, hydropower, nuclear power and new energy power generation rose from 16.9% in 2014 to 25.5% in 2021, and clean energy accounted for more than 60% of the increase in energy consumption.
