Euro Considered an Attractive Funding Currency -- Market Talk

Dow Jones Newswires ·  Aug 12, 2021 18:45

1045 GMT - Low levels of implied volatility in the euro will encourage investors to use the low-yielding currency to fund purchases of higher-yielding currencies, known as carry trades, ING says. "There still seems interest to take advantage of the low volatility environment with carry trades--and EUR funding looks attractive," ING analyst say. "Indeed, the biggest chance for the EUR to rally over coming months will probably come through an asset market correction and a large position unwind." The three-month implied volatility for EUR/USD is last around 5.3%, according to Refinitiv. Implied volatility is a measure of expected price swings. EUR/USD rises 0.1% to 1.1746.
