An academic group that studies the timing of US economic expansion saidThe recession caused by the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States ended in April 2020, making it the shortest recession in the history of the United States.

The National Bureau of Economic Research's business cycle dating committee said in a statement on Monday that all key indicators of employment and production "clearly point to April 2020 as the trough". Before the recession, the US economy experienced a 10.5-year expansion, the longest since records began in 1854. The previous shortest recession occurred in 1980 and lasted six months.
