German Economy Minister Altmeier said on Friday that Germany will reach the goal of putting 1 million electric cars on the road this month, although it is six months later than originally planned.
Altmeier said, “By July, we will reach the 2020 target of 1 million electric vehicles, just six months late. This used to be something that everyone thought was impossible to achieve.”
He added that Germany's electric vehicle rewards in the first half of 2021 reached 1.25 billion euros, more than last year as a whole. Germany increased subsidies for electric vehicles during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Altmeier also said that Germany may exceed its long-term target of 7 million to 10 million electric vehicles.
