More than 10 million electric vehicles were produced worldwide between 2010 and 2020, according to a study released Tuesday by the International Clean Transport Council ((International Council on Clean Transportation,ICCT). China is the world's largest producer of electric vehicles, accounting for about 44 per cent of global production, producing and selling about 4.6 million vehicles over the past decade.
Europe ranks second, accounting for 25 per cent of global electric vehicle production over the past decade, producing 2.6 million vehicles and selling 3.2 million, making the region a net importer of electric vehicles.
Us electric vehicle production still lags far behind China and Europe, and the gap has widened in the last three years, according to the ICCT report. By the end of 2017, the US accounted for about 20 per cent of global production of electric vehicles, falling to 18 per cent by 2020, while China and Europe accounted for an expanding share.
