The State Administration of Market Supervision issued a notice at noon today (June 26).Tesla, Inc. Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Tesla, Inc. (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported and domestic Model 3, domestic Model Y electric vehicles, a total of 285520.

Among them, Tesla, Inc. Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Model 3 electric vehicles produced between January 12, 2019 and November 27, 2019, totaling 35665.

Tesla, Inc. (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled 211256 domestic Model 3 electric vehicles produced from December 19, 2019 to June 7, 2021, and some domestic Model Y electric vehicles produced from January 1, 2021 to June 7, 2021, a total of 38599 vehicles.

The announcement said that due to problems with the active cruise control system of the vehicles within the recall scope, it is easy to cause the driver to mistakenly activate the active cruise function in the following situations: when the vehicle is in D gear, the driver shifts the right control lever again to try to switch gear; when the vehicle makes a sharp turn, the driver mistakenly touches and pokes the right control lever. After the active cruise control is mistakenly activated, if the cruising speed set by the vehicle is not the current speed, and the current speed is lower than the set speed, the vehicle will accelerate to the set speed, resulting in a sudden increase in vehicle speed, which will affect the driver's expectation and lead to miscalculation of vehicle handling. In extreme cases, it may lead to vehicle collision and safety risks.

According to the announcement, Tesla, Inc. Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla, Inc. (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the active cruise control software for vehicles within the recall range free of charge through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology, and users can complete the software upgrade without going to the store. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla, Inc. Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla, Inc. (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through Tesla, Inc. service center to upgrade active cruise control software for vehicles free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

The recall was carried out after the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration launched a defect investigation, the notice said. Affected by the investigation, Tesla, Inc. Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Tesla, Inc. (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate safety risks.

Subsequently, Tesla, Inc. responded to the recall: sorry that users do not need to go to the store to upgrade their cars remotely.

In response to the recall, Tesla, Inc. said on June 26th that the vehicles within the scope of the recall (Model 3/Model Y), as the active cruise control function may be mistakenly activated by the driver, and there are safety risks in extreme cases, Tesla, Inc. took the initiative to file the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration.
