IntelCEO Pat Gelsinger (Pat Gelsinger) said on Wednesday that he expected growth in the semiconductor industry to usher in a "golden decade".
"We think the whole market, the world, is in a period of very expansion," Gelsinger said in an interview. I predict that there are still 10 years of good days waiting for us, because the world is becoming more and more digital, and everything that is digital needs semiconductors. "
Intel is investing heavily in increasing chip capacity, such as plans to build a $20 billion chip plant in Arizona to create capacity that can be used even after the current global chip shortage has eased. The company also recently announced plans to become a "contract manufacturer" to make microchips for other companies.
Mr Gelsinger also said on Wednesday that Intel would announce plans to build another "giant fab" in the US or Europe by the end of the year.
