Dan Tehan, Australia's trade minister, said Britain and Australia had reached a free trade agreement, which will be officially announced later on Tuesday. This is the first trade agreement since Britain left the European Union.

Tehan said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison agreed on the agreement during negotiations in London.

The agreement is expected to cut tariffs on many goods from both sides, including Scotch Whisky, clothing, cars, and controversial agricultural products, as British farmers worry that cheap imported meat from Australia will suppress local products. the British government says tariff cuts will be carried out in stages to protect farmers

In addition, the agreement may also be a stepping stone for Britain's accession to the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement) multilateral trade organization. Britain's next trade goal is to reach agreements with New Zealand and the United States.

For Australia, the agreement is the latest in a series of bilateral free trade agreements signed with Asia-Pacific countries and CPTPP members over the past decade. At present, Australia is still in negotiations with the European Union to join another agreement.
