Taro Aso, Japan's finance minister, told reporters in London that under the first part of the new international tax framework agreed by the G7 countries, most of the companies likely to face higher taxes would be US-based companies.

This "applies roughly to 100 companies, and I believe most of them will be American companies," Mr Aso said.

Ministers agreed on at least 15% of the world's minimum corporate tax rate, which some say is too much, others say too little.

The G-20 is expected to agree to the tax agreement next month.

Note: G7 reaches a historic agreement on the world's lowest corporate tax rate.
