According to (SEC) filings of the Securities and Exchange Commission, GoogleCo-founder Sergey Brin sold a $32.7 million stake in Google's parent company Alphabet last week, the first time he has sold a stake in the technology giant since 2017.

Mr. Brin sold 13889 Alphabet shares on Friday, a fraction of his more than 38 million shares, according to the documents. The last time Brin sold shares was in November 2017, when Alphabet shares were trading at about $1035 and had risen to $2351.93 by Friday's close. The stock fell 2.56% to $2291.75 on Monday.

After paying taxes, Brin's net income from the sale is estimated at $20.6 million. It is not clear why Brin decided to sell the shares now or how he plans to use the proceeds.

Brin resigned as president of Alphabet in December 2019, but remains the company's controlling shareholder and board member. Forbes estimates that he is now the ninth richest man in the world, worth about $97.1 billion.
