The trend of major industries in Singapore keeps pace with the global trend.

The main drivers over the past nine weeks have been the decline in the infection rate of COVID-19 and the acceleration of global vaccines. As of March 6, the global COVID-19 vaccination dose reached 300 million doses, higher than 240 million doses at the end of February and 100 million doses at the end of January. At the same time, the risk of transmission of mutated strains remains a key social, economic and market risk.

Since the COVID-19 epidemic is the main market driver, the impact on the industry regardless of where stocks are listed is global, and fluctuations in most major sectors have been highly correlated over the past 12 months. For example, DBS Group, OCBC Bank and United overseas Bank have recorded an average total return of 17% in the past 12 months, in line with the 17% total return (in Singapore dollars) of the Bloomberg Global Banking Index (Bloomberg World Bank Index).

On March 8, Jardine Strategy Holdings announced that it had agreed to the proposed terms of Jardine Group Holdings, whereby Jardine Group Holdings would pay cash to acquire the remaining 15% of Jardine Strategy Holdings, which is not yet held by Jardine Group Holdings and its wholly owned subsidiaries. Under the terms of the acquisition, Jardine Strategy controlling shareholders (except Jardine Group Holdings and its wholly-owned subsidiaries) are entitled to $33.00 in cash per share of Jardine Strategy Holdings, which represents a premium of approximately 20.2% to Jardine Strategy Holdings's closing price of $27.45 per share on March 5, 2021. The two companies announced their preliminary results for the fiscal year 2020 (ended December 31) on March 11, and the details of the acquisition mentioned in the shareholders' notice, the procedures to be followed to approve the acquisition and the notice of the extraordinary general meeting of shareholders will be announced in the near future.
