Volkswagen's main brands doubled the share of pure electric vehicles in European sales by the end of the decade to 70%, indicating that the company expects to sell more than 1 million electric vehicles in Europe by then.
Although slightly conservative compared with Volvo and Jaguar's goal of fully switching to electric cars during the same period, the two companies are much smaller than Volkswagen, Europe's biggest brand by sales. Volkswagen will also see a surge in electric car sales in other markets. By 2030, the brand will account for more than 50% of its sales of electric vehicles in both the Chinese and American markets.
Ralf Brandstaetter, head of the Volkswagen brand, said: "We are picking up the pace and Volkswagen will change more in the next few years than ever before."
Volkswagen sells about 1.8 million vehicles a year in Europe, while FordAnd Volvo are about 960000 and 340000 respectively.
