Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard said on Wednesday that the US economy is still a long way from the Fed's employment and inflation targets and that monetary policy will continue to provide support until further progress is made.
"Today, in terms of jobs and inflation, the economy is still far from reaching our goals, and it will take some time to make substantial further progress," she said in a speech prepared for the Harvard speech. " Brainard pointed out that the economic recovery played an uneven role in all levels of workers, sectors and regions in the United States, leading to a "K-shaped" recovery. The unemployment rate in the United States is now close to 10%.
Mr Brainard said inflation expectations were "still very low" and were expected to pick up faster. You may see short-term inflationary pressures that reflect imbalances.
