The Norwegian Petroleum Authority announced on Tuesday that the US company ConocoPhillips has discovered a large oil field in the northern part of the Heidrun oil field in the Norwegian Sea. It is estimated that the recoverable reserves are between 76 million barrels and 201 million barrels of oil equivalent, and that the region's existing infrastructure can be used for development.
This is ConocoPhillips's second oil discovery in the Norwegian Sea in two months. In November of last year, the company discovered gas southwest of the Skarv gas field.
