According to reports, AMDToday's results for the third quarter of 2020 showed revenue of $2.8 billion, up 56 per cent year-on-year and 45 per cent month-on-month. Net profit was $390 million, compared with $120 million a year ago and $157 million in the previous quarter. Without Non-GAAP, net profit was $501 million, up from $219 million a year ago and $216 million in the previous quarter.

Third quarter results:

Revenue was $2.8 billion, up 56 per cent year-on-year and 45 per cent month-on-month. This is mainly due to increased revenue from the enterprise, embedded products, semi-custom products, computing and graphics business units.

The gross profit margin was 44%, an increase of 1 percentage point over the same period last year, which was flat from the previous month. Year-on-year growth was mainly driven by EPYC and Ryzen processors; month-on-month growth was flat as sales of Ryzen and EPYC processors were offset by a higher proportion of semi-custom revenue.

Operating profit was $449 million, compared with $186 million a year ago and $173 million in the previous quarter. Operating profit, excluding Non-GAAP, was $525 million, up from $240 million a year ago and $233 million in the previous quarter.

The improvement in operating profit was mainly driven by revenue growth, including an increase in sales of Ryzen and EPYC processors, as well as an increase in sales of semi-custom products.

Net profit was $390 million, compared with $120 million a year ago and $157 million in the previous quarter. Without Non-GAAP, net profit was $501 million, up from $219 million a year ago and $216 million in the previous quarter.

Diluted earnings per share were $0.32, compared with $0.11 in the same period last year and $0.13 in the previous quarter. Without Non-GAAP, diluted earnings per share were 41 cents per share, up from 18 cents a year ago and 18 cents in the previous quarter.

At the end of the third quarter, AMD had cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments of $1.77 billion.

Performance outlook:

AMD expects revenue in the fourth quarter of 2020 to reach about $3 billion, fluctuating by $100m, up about 41 per cent year-on-year and about 7 per cent month-on-month. Without Non-GAAP, the gross margin for the fourth quarter would be about 45 per cent.

For the whole of 2020, AMD expects revenue to fall by about 41 per cent year-on-year, up from a previous forecast of 32 per cent.

Without Non-GAAP, the gross profit margin will reach about 45% in 2020, in line with previous expectations.
