October 23 Market Review

Us stocks closed slightly higher overnight, with the Dow up 0.54%, the Nasdaq up 0.19% and the S & P 500 up 0.52%. The banking sector generally closed higher, with JPMorgan Chase & Co up 3.5% and American Express Co up 3.4%. Intel Corp's Q3 net profit fell 29 per cent year-on-year and 9 per cent after hours. Gilead's Redsevir was approved by FDA and rose more than 7 per cent in after-hours trading.

The Hang Seng Index closed up 0.54% at 24918. On the market, oil stocks led the market, with all three barrels of oil up more than 6%; car dealer stocks continued to be strong, Harmony Motor rose more than 7%, Zhongsheng Group rose more than 5%; large technology stocks all fell, JD.com, XIAOMI and Meituan all fell by more than 2%; online education stocks weakened again, and New Oriental Education & Technology Group fell more than 8% online.
