According to reports,Cisco(Cisco) promised to increase the number of black workers and leaders. Previously, several companies had promised to work to resolve the lack of diversity in the workforce.

Cisco, one of the world's largest manufacturers of networking equipment, said it aims to increase the number of black workers by 25% by 2023, including junior and manager-level employees. At the level of director to vice president, Cisco wants to increase the number of black workers by 75%. Overall, Cisco wants to create equal pay and promotion equality for black workers.

Currently, companies from Silicon Valley are facing tremendous pressure. After the murder of George Floyd (George Floyd) by the Minnesota police in May of this year, technology companies have launched internal operations one after another. The Floyd incident sparked a black affirmative action movement and raised concerns about racial inequality across the United States. Statistics show that most US tech companies have a low number of black workers.

After the Freud incident, Cisco was relatively quick to respond, but they also encountered some internal difficulties along the way. Some employees were fired because of misconduct during video conferences discussing race issues.

Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins (Chuck Robbins) said that the video conference in which everyone in the company participated was to create an atmosphere where people could discuss this topic. In an interview, he said that this is the role a business leader should play, and the reaction of black workers will help him decide what actions he should take. Robbins said, “Empathy is a good thing, now is the time to act. We have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but now we're making progress.”

According to Cisco's recent corporate and social responsibility report, black workers account for 3.8% of its workforce. In technical positions, the share of black workers fell to 3.3%, while at the vice president level, the share of black workers was only 1.8%. There are no black executives in Cisco's upper leadership team.

Cisco said they will fund and support black universities to train the next generation of black business leaders. The company will also establish a $50 million venture capital fund to invest in start-ups founded by black people, and will promote social change, police reform, and allow employees to take paid leave during the US election to complete voting.
