Moderna Inc said he had reached an agreement with the US government to provide millions of doses of mRNA-1273, a candidate vaccine for COVID-19. The company will receive up to $1.525 billion to manufacture and deliver 100m doses of vaccine, including incentives for timely delivery, and the deal includes the option to buy up to 400m doses of the vaccine.

Before trading, moderna rose 10% before trading.

Trump announced on Aug. 11 that the US government will buy 100m doses of Moderna Inc's mRNA-1273 vaccine.

Moderna Inc said the deal was worth $1.53 billion and the federal government had the right to order an additional 400m doses of vaccine. The company also said that the United States has invested $955 million in Moderna Inc's vaccine research and development, bringing its total investment to $2.48 billion.

It is reported that Moderna Inc's mRNA-1273 vaccine is currently in the late stage of human trials and will test its effectiveness and safety in 30, 000 people. Moderna Inc said the test results could be announced as early as October.

Before reaching an agreement with Moderna Inc, the US government had reached similar agreements with pharmaceutical giants Pfizer Inc, Johnson & Johnson and other drugmakers on their potential health incident vaccines. The US Department of Health and Human Services had previously said it would pay $1.95 billion to Pfizer Inc and BioNTech for the production and delivery of 100m doses of health incident vaccine, with the right to order an additional 500m doses, and would provide Johnson & Johnson with more than $1 billion for 100m doses and the right to order an additional 200m doses.

In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services has reached a $2.1 billion agreement with Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline PLC to develop and produce 100m doses of potential health event vaccines, with the right to order an additional 500m doses.
