CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (00002.HK), a subsidiary of CLP Holdings, announced that on February 24, it cooperated with CNOOC (Shenzhen) International Marine Clean Energy Co., Ltd. to complete the liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship-to-ship bunkering operation for the very large crude carrier (VLCC) 'Maran Dione.' This marked the first time an LNG bunkering operation was conducted in Hong Kong waters.
The operation is expected to further consolidate Hong Kong's position as a world-class green marine fuel bunkering hub.
The bunkering operation was carried out by CNOOC’s 'Ocean Oil 301,' the world’s largest LNG transport and bunkering vessel, which is nearly 200 meters long and can carry 30,000 cubic meters of LNG. The operation took place at the southern anchorage of Cheung Chau and lasted approximately seven hours, during which about 4,700 cubic meters of LNG were bunkered. The 'Maran Dione,' built in 2023, measures 330 meters in length and 60 meters in width, with a deadweight tonnage of 320,000 tons. After refueling, it can sail continuously for over 12,000 nautical miles, equivalent to a round trip between the Middle East and Southeast Asia without the need for mid-route refueling.
Ng Wueng-ho, President of CLP Power Group, stated that in the future, the company will actively play the role of a super connector, working hand-in-hand with CNOOC to introduce advanced bunkering services to Hong Kong and provide world-class energy solutions for international vessels.
