Gelonghui, February 18th | NVIDIA Corporation has sold all of its remaining shares in Arm Holdings Plc. Arm is a chip architecture technology company that NVIDIA attempted but ultimately failed to acquire five years ago. According to a regulatory filing, NVIDIA sold 1.1 million shares of Arm, valued at approximately $140 million based on Arm's closing price on Tuesday. This divestiture occurred at some point during the fourth quarter of last year, and following the completion of the transaction, NVIDIA’s ownership stake in Arm dropped to zero. NVIDIA declined to comment, while Arm did not immediately respond to media requests for comment. This move marks the conclusion of a tumultuous chapter between the two companies. In 2020, NVIDIA had agreed to acquire Arm for $40 billion, which would have become the largest acquisition in the semiconductor industry's history. However, the deal faced immediate opposition from regulators and customers. Arm's technology underpins the vast majority of advanced semiconductor chips globally, and its independence is considered a critical asset. In February 2022, both parties announced the termination of the acquisition agreement. Arm, controlled by SoftBank Group, subsequently proceeded with plans for a public listing.
