Have THOR Industries Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Simply Wall St ·  Jan 18 20:26

We wouldn't blame THOR Industries, Inc. (NYSE:THO) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that W. Woelfer, the Senior VP & COO recently netted about US$524k selling shares at an average price of US$115. However, that sale only accounted for 5.5% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

THOR Industries Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by W. Woelfer is the biggest insider sale of THOR Industries shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$115. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

W. Woelfer divested 6.30k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$112. Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. THOR Industries insiders own 4.6% of the company, currently worth about US$281m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About THOR Industries Insiders?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. But since THOR Industries is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. While conducting our analysis, we found that THOR Industries has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore this.
