Danish Prime Minister Firmly Rebukes Trump: Stop the Threats, Greenland is 'Not for Sale'

Just one day after the U.S. military operation captured Venezuela's leader, Denmark's prime minister issued a stern warning against Trump's remarks about purchasing Greenland. She emphasized that as a NATO member and close ally of the United States, Greenland’s sovereignty is not for sale, and urged the U.S. to cease its threats.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned U.S. President Trump to stop threatening to acquire Greenland. This came just a day after the U.S. carried out a military operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

In a statement last Sunday, Frederiksen said, 'The Kingdom of Denmark — and thus Greenland as well — is part of NATO and therefore covered by the alliance’s security guarantees. There is already a defense agreement between our kingdom and the United States, which grants the U.S. extensive access rights in Greenland.'

'Therefore, I strongly urge the United States to stop threatening a historically close ally, another nation, and another people, who have clearly stated they are ‘not for sale,'” she said.

Frederiksen’s warning came after The Atlantic quoted Trump as saying, 'We do need Greenland, absolutely.'

Last weekend, Trump ordered a military operation that captured Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife, both of whom have since been taken to the United States on drug-related charges.

This action followed months of U.S. military buildup and threats against Venezuela, with the Trump administration claiming the country was involved in drug trafficking to the United States.

The overthrow of Maduro has sparked speculation that Trump’s other territorial ambitions may also be achieved through force.

Shortly after Maduro’s arrest, Katie Miller, wife of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, posted a map on X platform showing the U.S. flag covering Greenland, captioned 'Soon.'

Trump has long harbored ambitions to acquire Greenland, the mineral-rich autonomous territory of Denmark. Last month, he appointed Louisiana Republican Governor Jeff Landry as envoy to Greenland. Trump has also publicly discussed turning the independent nation of Canada into the 51st state of the United States.

Greenland and Canada have repeatedly rejected such attempts by Trump.
