“Three Horses and One Li” gathered at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference to kick off

A feast of technology after a long absence! On the morning of July 9 (today), the three-day 2020 World Artificial Intelligence Conference Cloud Summit officially kicked off in Shanghai. The entire opening ceremony lasted 2 and a half hours. The biggest highlight of this conference was that the “Three Horses” (Musk, Ma Yun, Ma Huateng) and Li Yanhong “did not come together for a long time” to share their vision of artificial intelligence and paint a picture of the future artificial intelligence society.

Li Yanhong: Artificial intelligence is about to be fully industrialized

At the opening ceremony, Baidu Chairman and CEO Li Yanhong profoundly explained his vision of AI and Baidu.

According to Li Yanhong, the development of human AI will go through three major historical stages. The first stage is the stage of technological intelligence, that is, the stage of concept introduction and technology exploration. At this stage, artificial intelligence has not evolved into an industrial or economic phenomenon. The second stage is economic intelligence. Artificial intelligence is beginning to exert its magic in a wide range of economic fields. In the first half of this stage, the development of artificial intelligence mainly revolves around the development of general capabilities and platformization of AI capabilities as a resource, and the two iconic industry applications of intelligent search and intelligent recommendation of information flow; in the latter half, human artificial intelligence can begin to be fully industrialized, that is, the full popularization of industry applications and commercialization.

“We are currently in a period of transition from the first half to the second half of economic intelligence.” Li Yanhong said.

As for the third stage of artificial intelligence, Li Yanhong believes that it is social intelligence. Artificial intelligence penetrates from the economic field to a wider range of social fields. “Intelligent collaboration and system innovation throughout society and around the world will be the main features of the third stage of artificial intelligence. Ultimately, collaboration and transformation will have a more profound impact on the economy, and humans will eventually enter an intelligent society.” Li Yanhong said.

Li Yanhong said that artificial intelligence will greatly improve efficiency and drive economic growth, including medical care, energy, transportation and other fields. For example, the construction of intelligent transportation infrastructure based on car-road collaboration will be able to improve traffic efficiency by 15-30%. This means an increase in absolute GDP of 2.4%-4.8%. If compared with the increase, it may mean an annual contribution of about tens of percent to GDP growth.

“Artificial intelligence is a technological wave comparable to the industrial revolution. It will profoundly change all walks of life, and the pandemic has become an opportunity to develop artificial intelligence. It has come to people, lengthened people's hands, enriched people's brains, and humans will eventually move towards an intelligent society.” Li Yanhong said.

Li Yanhong revealed that Baidu will act as an enabler in the field of artificial intelligence, empowering AI developers and intelligent industrial enterprises. Around this position, Baidu recently set two small goals: first, the number of intelligent cloud servers will reach 5 million by 2030; second, to train more than 5 million AI talents for the whole society in the next 5 years.

Ma Huateng: The unknown of artificial intelligence is greater than the known

At this conference, Ma Huateng, founder and CEO of Tencent, was unable to visit the conference site in person due to physical reasons, but he shared his views on artificial intelligence remotely via the cloud.

Ma Huateng said in a remote address that the cloud summit broke through face-to-face restrictions and turned the whole world into a venue, so that we could participate in this grand event from screen to screen.

“Artificial intelligence itself is a multinational and interdisciplinary exploration. It is driving human cognition faster, higher, and stronger, and is bound to bring us an unprecedented technological and industrial revolution.” Ma Huateng said, “Our unknown about new technologies such as artificial intelligence is still greater than is known, so Tencent incorporates technology for good into the company's mission and vision. The new technology we research and apply every day is ultimately responsible for users. If we want AI to be good, we must strive to make artificial intelligence known, controllable, usable, and reliable.

Ren Yuxin, chief operating officer of Tencent, came to the conference. He further added that Ma Huateng AI proposed four principles for good, urging us to use AI to continuously think and resolve new issues such as privacy security, algorithmic discrimination, and the digital divide, and strive to achieve transparency, HP, responsibility, and security. AI not only changes the relationship between people and machines, but also brings adjustments to relationships between people. It is the biggest variable in the industrial economy, and the most important unknown in social life. A new generation of young people must not only master the power of science and technology, but also consider cultural values. Both are equally important.

Ren Yuxin said that after the current epidemic, there are no purely traditional enterprises in China. We believe AI technology is being deeply embedded in all walks of life and is becoming ubiquitous. The increasingly improved new infrastructure and industrial Internet will bring new volume to all walks of life and bring new growth to economic development.

Regarding Shanghai, Ma Huateng said that next, Tencent's East China headquarters will further take root in Shanghai and accelerate investment in new infrastructure. Together with Shanghai, it has encountered new opportunities in the midst of crisis and opened up a new situation in the midst of change.

Musk: US technology will not simply be copied to China

Tesla CEO Musk also connected to the 2020 World Artificial Intelligence Conference Cloud Summit in the morning. He said that autonomous driving is developing rapidly in China, and Tesla's autonomous driving function is also very popular. Tesla is very confident about achieving L5 level autonomous driving or fully autonomous driving in the future. Musk said, “At Tesla, I think we are very close to L5 level autonomous driving. I am confident that we will complete the development of L5 level basic functions this year.” He also revealed that Tesla has begun research and development of a next-generation autonomous driving platform, which will be completed in about a year.

He also stressed that Tesla will not simply copy US technology to China; it will carry out original technology research and development in China, etc.

Furthermore, Tesla's progress in the construction of the Shanghai Gigafactory has also attracted much attention. In response, Musk said in a link that the construction of the Shanghai Gigafactory is progressing smoothly, and he hopes to visit the Shanghai Gigafactory as soon as possible. At the same time, he revealed that the Shanghai Gigafactory will apply AI technology and software, etc., but it will take some time for the factory to actually use artificial intelligence effectively. People can think of the factory as a complex collection involving people and machines.

Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, was in Yunnan at the time of the conference, but he delivered a keynote speech through the Cloud Connect Conference. Ma Yun said that there were still people who were worried and debated last year. What about machines replacing human employment? What is most urgent now is how to make machines replace many of the jobs of humans as soon as possible. For example, in the field of the spread of the virus, every effort is made to use machines and artificial intelligence rather than bring people together.

“So, the world is really like this. Nothing we're worried about is happening, yet what we're not worried about is happening one after another. Today's problems are the result of decisions we made yesterday, yet it is difficult for us to change yesterday, and we are often powerless even for today. What should the future hold? It's up to us to decide today. The changes the pandemic has brought to the world, and I think we should treat it as a signal from nature and the future.” Ma Yun said.

Referring to the epidemic, Ma Yun said that the epidemic tells people that humans are inseparable from the Earth, but the Earth can leave humans. “This pandemic has taught us that we are unfamiliar with the Earth, and that it might be better for the Earth to leave us. Humans are only nature's preferred managers, but nature can lay us off at any time. Humans can survive on Earth only by adapting to nature and respecting nature.”

Ma Yun believes that economic growth can slow down, but humans must grow. The pandemic has made us understand that the world's ecosystems are determined by microorganisms, not by the highest level of animals. Humans should never think too highly of themselves. AI should be translated into machine intelligence. Translated into artificial intelligence, humans view themselves as too big and too high. Many things are very difficult for humans, but very easy for machines.
