UiPath, a company specializing in enterprise automation and artificial intelligence software, has released its latest report titled 'Agent-based Automation: A New Chapter in Modern Business Collaboration.' The report indicates that nearly half (43%) of Hong Kong enterprises are currently using AI agents, marking a significant step in the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence. Additionally, the adoption rates of AI agents in China and Taiwan are also similar, reflecting a proactive push for AI application across the Greater China region.
Across the Greater China region, 87% of enterprises plan to adopt agent-based AI within the next six months. Of these, 45% have already implemented AI agents, and another 42% plan to introduce them in the coming six months, making 2025 a critical year for AI integration.
In fact, AI spending in the Greater China region is expected to reach $102.9 billion by 2028, with this upward trend also driving a significant increase in AI investment across the Asia-Pacific region, projected to reach $176 billion by 2028.
Despite the strong growth trend in AI development, enterprises in the Greater China region face several challenges in promoting the widespread use of agent-based AI, including data security (63%), a shortage of internal technical talent (49%), and concerns over ethical standards and regulatory compliance (48%). Moreover, business risks cannot be overlooked, such as security vulnerabilities arising from autonomous actions (53%), the risk of malicious misuse, and the lack of transparency in decision-making processes (44%). These challenges underscore the urgent need to establish robust governance frameworks and develop specialized talent.
Despite these challenges, enterprises in the Greater China region are accelerating the adoption of agent-based AI, with more than 66% actively exploring potential applications. As Hong Kong businesses increasingly adopt agent-based AI solutions, the Hong Kong government and industry must select appropriate tools, formulate specific policies, and foster institutional collaboration to position Hong Kong as a leading AI deployment hub in the region.
