DJ Walmart Changes Shopping Process, to Limit Customers in Stores at One Time

Walmart Inc. on Friday said it was implementing new policies at its stores to encourage customers to practice social distancing while shopping.

As of April 4, the company said, it will begin to limit the number of customers permitted in its stores at any one time. "Stores will now allow no more than five customers for each 1,000 square feet at a given time, roughly 20% of a store's capacity," the company said.

Walmart also said it would restrict entry to its stores to a single entrance, and will have customers exit through a different door, "which should help lessen the instances of people closely passing each other."

The company said many of its stores will institute one-way movement through the aisles, which is expected "to help more customers avoid coming into close contact with others as they shop."
