According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, in March 2025, the national consumer price index decreased by 0.1% year-on-year. Among them, the urban area decreased by 0.1%, and the rural area decreased by 0.3%; food prices fell by 1.4%, while non-food prices rose by 0.2%; consumer goods prices dropped by 0.4%, while service prices increased by 0.3%. From January to March, the average national consumer price index decreased by 0.1% compared to the same period last year.
In March, the national Consumer Price Index fell by 0.4% month-on-month. Among them, the urban area declined by 0.4%, and the rural area declined by 0.3%; food prices decreased by 1.4%, non-food prices fell by 0.2%; consumer goods prices decreased by 0.4%, and service prices decreased by 0.4%.

1. Changes in the year-on-year prices of various goods and services
In March, the prices of food, tobacco, and alcohol decreased by 0.6% year-on-year, affecting the CPI (Consumer Price Index) decline by about 0.17 percentage points. Among food items, fresh vegetable prices fell by 6.8%, influencing the CPI drop by about 0.15 percentage points; egg prices decreased by 1.6%, affecting the CPI down by about 0.01 percentage points; grain prices dropped by 1.5%, affecting the CPI down by about 0.03 percentage points; Pork prices rose by 6.7%, influencing the CPI increase by about 0.08 percentage points; fresh fruit prices rose by 0.9%, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.02 percentage points.
Among the other seven categories, six saw price increases while one experienced a decrease year-on-year. Among them, the prices of other goods and services and clothing rose by 6.2% and 1.3% respectively, while education, culture and entertainment, and daily necessities and services saw price increases of 0.8% and 0.6% respectively. The prices of housing and Medical Care both increased by 0.1%; however, the prices for transportation and Communications fell by 2.6%.

2. Changes in the month-on-month prices of various goods and services
In March, the prices of food, tobacco, and alcohol decreased by 0.9% month-on-month, contributing approximately 0.24 percentage points to the decline in CPI. Within food, the price of fresh vegetables fell by 5.1%, contributing approximately 0.11 percentage points to the CPI decline; egg prices decreased by 2.7%, leading to a drop of about 0.02 percentage points in CPI; prices for livestock meat fell by 2.2%, impacting the CPI by around 0.07 percentage points, including a decrease of 4.4% in the price of Pork, which contributed about 0.06 percentage points to the CPI decline; fresh fruit prices decreased by 1.6%, contributing approximately 0.03 percentage points to the CPI decline.
Among the other seven categories, three saw price increases, two remained stable, and two decreased month-on-month. Of these, prices for daily necessities and services, clothing, and other goods and services rose by 1.3%, 0.7%, and 0.4% respectively; prices for housing and Medical Care remained unchanged; while prices for transportation and Communications, and education, culture and entertainment fell by 1.4% and 0.8% respectively.
