PCCW (00008.HK) announced that its streaming platform Viu will launch several Viu Original series this year, including 'My Youth' starring South Korean actors Song Joong-ki and Shin Hye-sun, which is expected to premiere in the second half of 2025. This is Song Joong-ki's first leading role since the Viu original series 'The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate' in 2022, which became the most-watched show on the Viu platform in just ten days after its launch.
In addition to 'My Youth', Viu also announced the launch of three new Viu Original series, including the South Korean romantic comedy 'My Girlfriend is More Handsome than Me', the Thai suspense drama 'Maya', and the Hong Kong travel show 'Macau 15 Changes'. Other programs for the second season include the mainland drama 'A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality' starring Yang Yang and Jin Chen, as well as local dramas from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Additionally, Viu signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) in August 2024, aiming to jointly invest in high-quality South Korean content that has strong Southeast Asian elements and can attract global audiences. The two parties will officially kick off proposal collection in the second quarter of this year, covering both drama and non-drama projects, marking the first joint investment collaboration between Viu and KOCCA. Selected projects will premiere exclusively on Viu.
