On the evening of March 17, BYD held its third technology-type press conference of the year, officially unveiling the Super e-platform technology.

Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Group, stated that since the launch of the Tian Shen Eye Q&M Dental Smart Driving on February 10, and the Ling Yuan smart vehicle Drone system on March 2, BYD has continuously rolled out key technological innovations, both aimed at making smart travel more convenient for users.

"Today, we present another major technological platform—the Super e-platform, which will continue to refresh the ultimate experience of electric travel," said Wang Chuanfu.

Exploring the unmanned zone of electric vehicle technology

At the press conference site, Wang Chuanfu reviewed BYD's exploration journey in the electric vehicle field. Wang Chuanfu stated that BYD is one of the earliest Chinese car manufacturers to develop electric vehicles and also the one that understands them best.

In his view, during the era of RBOB Gasoline vehicles, the engine, transmission, and chassis were considered the "old three essentials" of RBOB Gasoline vehicles, which is a widely recognized technological gap that is difficult to overcome. In the era of electric vehicles, the Battery, Electric Machine, and Electronic Control have become the "new three essentials" of Autos. Wang Chuanfu believes that these technologies must be under one's own control. Based on this, BYD has been committed to exploring the technological uncharted territories of the "new three essentials" since the development of electric vehicles.

The Industry Chain of electric vehicles in China has developed over the past decade, making it the most complete, leading, and mature in the Global market. Now, core components for building an electric vehicle can be purchased directly, unlike during our time when we started from scratch and relied entirely on our own to explore little by little." Wang Chuanfu recalled that when BYD was making electric vehicles, the resources at hand were very limited, and there was no room for error when choosing the technical route for the "new three essentials."

From Battery to Electric Machine, and then to chips, BYD provided the industry-standard answers through continuous technical breakthroughs without any reference answers. "The development logic of BYD is very simple; it is to determine strategy through technology. Technology allows us to see further and deeper," Wang Chuanfu revealed. After mastering the core technology of the three electrics, BYD adopted a platform-based vehicle manufacturing approach to achieve continuous leadership.

Electric vehicle charging power has entered the megawatt era.

Despite the continuous leaps in electric vehicle technology, there is still anxiety regarding energy replenishment. Wang Chuanfu believes that solving charging anxiety is a must-answer question that the Industry must overcome. BYD's pursuit is to ensure that the charging time for electric vehicles is as short as the refueling time for RBOB Gasoline vehicles.

"To achieve the goal of simultaneous oil and electric speed, we must create an ultra-high voltage charging system to increase charging speed. Ten years ago, we already achieved a universal 800-volt high-voltage architecture. Today, we are challenging even higher voltage, aiming to directly achieve 1000 volts," Wang Chuanfu stated. After reaching the maximum charging voltage of 1000 volts for Global mass production, the next step is to achieve a super large current of 1000 amperes.

At the press conference, Wang Chuanfu officially announced that with the release of BYD's megawatt flash charging, the charging power for electric vehicles has officially entered the megawatt era.

It is reported that based on megawatt flash charging, BYD's electric vehicles can charge 20 kilometers in just 10 seconds, and 5 minutes of charging can achieve a range of 400 kilometers.

Wang Chuanfu further revealed that based on the megawatt fast charging, BYD plans to build more than 4,000 megawatt fast charging stations across the country. In addition to building its own stations, BYD has also decided to share the megawatt fast charging stations with the Industry.From a technical perspective,It welcomes more social capital to participate together in promoting the construction of megawatt charging facilities.

"In addition to accelerating the construction of fast charging stations, we also want to maximize the use of existing charging resources on the market to make it more convenient for users to charge. Currently, there are many supercharging stations nationwide, for instance, Huawei's first generation of supercharging stations has a power of 600 kilowatts. With our dual-gun charging technology, by plugging in two guns at the same time, it can directly turn into a megawatt fast charging station." Wang Chuanfu stated that for the existing charging stations on the market, BYD's intelligent boosting technology can achieve full compatibility with public fast charging stations.

Wang Chuanfu believes that currently, we are transitioning from being a major automotive country to a strong automotive nation, becoming a leader in the Global wave of electric vehicle technology. These achievements are the result of all Chinese brands racing ahead through technology, competing with each other. It is hoped that more Chinese brands will take over, pushing the technology of Chinese electric vehicles to greater heights and prospering through competition.

The Super E platform has been officially released.

Lian Yubo, Executive Vice President of BYD Group and Dean of the Automotive Engineering Research Institute, introduced that since 2010, BYD's E platform has undergone continuous iteration and update. The newly released Super E platform has four world-first features, including a super kilovolt architecture, flash charging batteries, a megawatt fast charging system, and a mass production 3000 RPM electric drive system.

It is reported that to achieve the kilovolt architecture, BYD has specially developed the world's highest 1500-volt automotive-grade Silicon Carbide chips. Lian Yubo stated that currently the supply chain for the kilovolt architecture is not complete, based on this, BYD has also independently established the manufacturing capability of the entire Industry Chain for the kilovolt architecture, re-defining the charging experience of electric vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that to achieve faster charging, BYD has also redesigned the blade Battery, achieving a higher charging rate while also extending the Battery's lifespan.
