An Insider Of Orrstown Financial Services Picks Up 6.2% More Stock

Simply Wall St ·  Feb 9 07:32

Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that Brian Brunner, a Orrstown Financial Services, Inc. (NASDAQ:ORRF) insider, recently shelled out US$97k to buy stock, at US$34.76 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, increasing their shareholding by only 6.2%, it can be interpreted as a good sign.

Orrstown Financial Services Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive VP & Market President for the Maryland Region, Christopher Holt, for US$273k worth of shares, at about US$34.16 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at below the current price (US$34.51). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 32% of Christopher Holt's stake.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 5.10k shares for US$173k. On the other hand they divested 12.00k shares, for US$425k. All up, insiders sold more shares in Orrstown Financial Services than they bought, over the last year. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 4.5% of Orrstown Financial Services shares, worth about US$30m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
